Rose Elementary Health Fair 10-13-2012

On October 13, 2012, Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Society participated at Heritage Rose Elementary Health Fair from 10am-12pm.  We were assisted by  first and second year Dental Hygiene students from UT School of Dentistry, who took time out of their busy school schedule and did a marvelous job of giving back to the community.  The students manned two educational stations which were visited by about 200 participants including kids and their parents.  At one station, they provided a very valuable lesson of differentiating between "Good snacks" and "Bad snacks" to the kids, with the help of a fun interactive game of "Meal of Fortune".  At the second station, they demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques to kids and their parents.  The participants were rewarded with toothbrush, and floss donated by Colgate and UT.  Participants also received sugar free gum donated by Orbit, in honor of National Dental Hygiene Month.  The kids were awarded Diplomas on successful completion of both lessons.  Thanks to the efforts of the UT students, Chand Singh, Fouzia Mohammad, Phoebe Laurent, Veronica Cordon, Shamsha Ali, Ami  Sanchez, Chou Leav, Kristi Wagens, and Kadie Rowe, the Heritage Rose Health Fair was very successful.  Thanks to Victoria Patrounova, RDH, MHA, Clinical Assistant Professor at UT School of Dentistry, for organizing the students for this event.
